ABOUT



Zelphar is part of a royal family in his home city. In fact there are five royal families that reside in the city. They have a unique way of governing with the heads of the families all being part of a ruling council. However, one member is considered to be the leader of the ruling council and the de facto ruler of the city, despite there being multiple royal families.

How one is selected to be the leader is through an event called the Grand Trial. It is held every 8 years. Each family selects someone to represent them in the Grand Trial, this person is called their Champion. And they do battle against the other families Champions.. The head of the family that wins becomes the new council leader.

Anyone can be picked as a Champion, but the choice is usually kept secret to make tampering or other interference extremely difficult. Pick someone of great skill is a must if you hope for your to come out on top.

Zelphar is the chosen Champion of his family, though none other than his Mother knows that fact. Zelphar is a magical prodigy. But because of his tendency to stay out of the limelight or show off, no one knows how good his magical abilities are save for his Mother.

He spent a great deal of time of the libraries of the city, reading and absorbing knowledge. Reading is one of his favorite hobbies and his ability to understand and integrate the magical spells and theories he read about or learned is far beyond his years.

The Original chosen champion for Aeravansel family met with an accident. However, no one that knew he was their Champion believed it to truly be an accident. It wouldn't be the first time someone discovered or assumed someone would be a family's Champion and took them out.

Despite there still being several years left until the next Grand Trial, it could be difficult to find and assure the safety of your Champion, especially in secret. If you were to have known strong or talented magic users coming and going, it could be assumed that one of them might be your pick.

Zelphar's happened across him in one of the Castles libraries one day and witnessed his skill in magic. While risky, she wanted him to be their family's Champion. There is no rule in place that says he can't be, so she discussed with her Husband and asked if she could be the one to select the one to represent their family. She wanted to keep the choice to herself so no one could leak the information. Her Husband didn't have any reason to deny her the right to pick, so she selected her own son in secret.

Truthfully, Zelphar didn’t care much for the Grand Trial, but because of who made the request, he chose to participate. Because of his participation, he set out on an excursion through the world to help grow his magical powers and abilities. Doing this does have the extra benefit of allowing him to partake in the stories and knowledge of other places in the world.

Because of his somewhat reclusive behavior, no one would really realize that he was missing. Even if they did, his Mother had a cover story of him going to meet potential wife prospects from other kingdoms.

He brought no guard with him when he left the Kingdom. He was never a fan of being doted on and it would draw attention. His Mother tried to have guards secretly go with him, but he gave them the slip with his Magic.

He isn't worried about others finding out who he is since he spent so little time in grand public events, he knows he won't immediately be recognized as Royalty.

ABILITIES



Zelphar is a prodigy magic user. He’s capable of creating and weaving various magical spells for instantons or lingering effects. With enough time, he can make or enchant items to make them magical in nature or he can study items in hopes of learning the spells without them or learn how to disassemble or break apart the spell.

Zelphar created an magical book that he calls his Tome of Storage. He can quite literally store objects within the book itself and pull them out whenever he chooses to. He can write upon the pages and treat it as a normal book as well. The writing on the pages themselves can be wiped and stored whenever he sees fit as well. He can tear pages from it as well to use for long distance communications.

He has a magic cube that he calls the Portable Encampment. The cube when placed unfolds into a campsite with tents, stables, a permanent campfire as well as a place to bathe that perpetually has fresh water. Nothing can be stored with the campsite, so when it folds back up it leaves anything that doesn't come with it on the ground. But tweaks can be made to the campsite with enough time.

He doesn't excel at hand to hand combat himself, but he has magic items that can help aid him in fights. Such as a ring that he wears that allows him to meld with shows or become incorporeal for at least a minute.

He also has small metal figurines that when activated, become large and animate into warriors to fight or protect him should the need for them arise.
